Vicki Burton - President and Founder of the Shadows Foundation

Vicki Burton

President / Founder

In 2010, Vicki knew her soul passion was to help others after losing her aunt years before. Her drive was strong and she wanted to share this pursuit with those in need. She gathered a team that shared her enthusiasm and formed the 501(c)3 organization, Shadows Foundation. From that moment forward, she has lead the organization as it engages in serving families in Northern Arizona and promotes a unified voice to help those less fortunate and increase awareness throughout the community.

Vicki knows the importance of partnerships with other charity organizations and how working together toward a common goal grows community business involvement.

Cancer hit her family again when both Vicki and her mother were diagnosed with the disease. Both have recovered but she said the scars from the experience run deep.
In 2012, Shadows Foundation achieved another milestone, “Hearts Worth Saving”, a responder program that provides our Northern Arizona First Responders an advanced screening that can detect heart conditions in this high risk population that otherwise goes undetected.

Helping people deal with the “Right Now” is the goal of Shadows. Vicki works hard towards a continued partnership with those who give back to our community in need. In 2013, she was awarded the Soroptimist Red Ruby award for women helping other women.

Recently, Shadows Foundation partnered with the Flagstaff Police Dept to develop a compassionate solution to panhandling, the Better Bucks Program. With the assistance of participating businesses this program allows donors to purchase vouchers that can be given instead of cash and used for non-alcoholic and non-tobacco related goods. In recognition for her efforts and partnership in this program, Vicki was awarded the Flagstaff Police Departments Community Champion Award. This award is given to a person/business/ entity that goes above and beyond in nurturing intra community relationships.

Davina was raised in Flagstaff and graduated in 2003 from Sinagua High School. When she was 20 years old she decided it was time to see what else was out in the world. After a short time living in Tempe, Arizona she was off to Gainesville, Florida and Jacksonville, Florida. As much as she loved living the beach life in Jacksonville Davina came to realize it was time to come back to beautiful mountains of Flagstaff, her hometown and where her family was. After working for OfficeMax for 10 years Davina recently changed careers becoming the HR Coordinator at Schuff Steel in Bellemont. Donating her time to others is a passion of Davina’s which led her to volunteering and doing design work for the Shadows Foundation in 2011. In 2014 Davina joined the Shadows team becoming an active board member now working more with the Shadows Foundation in all areas of media, marketing and events.

Mike has been a member of the community for over 32 years and is currently a heavy equipment hauler for Sun State Equipment. Mike served in the Navy and is a veteran of Desert Storm, volunteered for numerous non profit agencies including Shadows since the beginning and was a member of the Sunrise Lions Club for many years.

Janis has lived in Flagstaff for the past fourteen years, and is currently the Director of Sales & Catering at the La Quinta Inn & Suites Prescott Conference Center. Janis has known and volunteered with Vicki Burton for over 10 years. Janis is dedicated to assisting Vicki with events in this unique foundation that helps families in the Flagstaff community directly by providing them the assistance and services they need while battling life threatening diseases. Janis has served as a member of the St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance NAZ Advisory Board Council, has volunteered with the American Cancer Society’s Denim or Diamonds Committee and Relay for Life from 2004-2012, and is a former Commissioner on the Beautification & Public Arts Commission for the City of Flagstaff.

Laureen Robins - Treasurer of the Shadows FoundationLaureen Robins

Laureen has held several positions with progressive responsibilities at CBRE, Inc., since 1984, and currently is a Client Services Specialist. As a CSS her duties include extrapolate strategies for marketing properties and expanding business, along with servicing existing clients. As the newest Board of Directors for Shadows Foundation, Laureen knows firsthand the enormous financial, emotional, spiritual and physical toll a life threatening illness takes on a family. Her husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2010 and thankfully is currently “clear” from his diagnosis.

Zane Jacobs

Volunteer

Zane Jacobs is a board member for The Shadows Foundation in Flagstaff Arizona.

He has traveled the country working internships for artists such as Margrete Oldman (glass artist), and Bennett Bean (ceramic artist). When he returned to Flagstaff Arizona he has began working for nonprofit organizations and an event coordinator and planner planning events. He has served on the Committee of Denim and Diamonds for the American Cancer Society, and fundraising events for Jerry Kids Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). He has planned and organized several festivals such as High Mountain Music Festival, Blues and Brews, Oktoberfest, and Flagstaff Pro Rodeo. He has also served as Vice President of Northern Arizona Pride Association for five years.

In his free time he enjoys hiking, horseback riding, and enjoying spending time with his niece and three nephews.
